About Bates Consulting, Inc.

Founded in 1987 by Rick Bates to assist property owners, managers, lenders, inspectors and insurers in identifying, communicating and developing action plans to solve a broad range of structural, mechanical, and environmental issues. An innovative and unique reporting system was developed and titled “GOLD Standard” reporting. This unique reporting system allows for effective identification and communication of complex building/site conditions by removing language, education, knowledge and experience barriers for a clearer understanding of conditions and pathway to options for sustainable solutions. The “GOLD Standard” reporting system reduces the typical extensive use of text by utilizing icons, bulleted sentences with key words flanked by photos – all within a proprietary format that has been integrated with the ASTM Standards of Practice. Rick Bates has been called upon to lecture on this unique and innovative system of building education by the Carnegie Mellon & Texas A&M Schools of Architecture.
